Elise Ferguson's work is a series of reflections on interior space, abstraction, and the flexible nature of perception. She uses pattern and color along with a range of process driven approaches to create works based on mathematical puzzles and geometric variation. With references to architecture ranging from the sacred (cathedral floor plan) to the mundane (office cubicle layout), her work reinvestigates the transitional period during which early 20th century painters such as Mondrian made their move from nature based imagery to 'pure plastic' abstraction.
For her series "Newport News Moon", the artist created a block print based on mirrored wood grain patterns. Beginning with three base colors (red, blue, and green), she masked off different areas of the plate for each impression - creating 30 unique images. Next, each print was considered as an individual image and collaged with custom inked paper, inkjet images and archival kraft paper.

Elise Ferguson's most recent solo exhibition was in 2008 at Envoy Gallery, NY.
