Nobody's Perfect
Artist: Jim Gaylord

Element Editions is pleased to present Nobody's Perfect, a new print by the artist Jim Gaylord. The image derives from the artist's method of compositing still pictures from special effects and stunt sequences in films. In these scenes, figures become briefly unrecognizable through motion or violence. These abstract states become starting points for the new composition.

After deconstructing several scenes from the film Final Destination 2, Gaylord isolated certain shapes within the film stills and rendered them as the silk-screened portions of the work. The representational background was painted from the original scene and reproduced as an inkjet print. The architectural forms were comprised of preexisting and invented elements, while the final hand-painted marks were even more improvisational.
