In the Absence: Excess
Artist: Jackie Saccoccio

Element Editions is proud to present "In the Absence: Excess", a new edition of unique prints by Jackie Saccoccio.

The energy-intense lines and dashes found in Saccoccio's wall drawings make up the imagery for the blocks. When stamped repeatedly in black and brown inks, the lyricism of the marks assumes a force where it functions as both impenetrable grid and shimmering void, finding excess and beauty in obliteration and absence.

Each print is realized through a combination of four wood and linoleum blocks printed in staggered layers one atop another. Printed on Japanese Shojoshi paper made of kozo and sulphite with four deckles, each work contains between four and twenty stampings.

Jackie Saccoccio has exhibited her paintings and wall drawings in the US and Europe including solo exhibitions at Eleven Rivington, NY (2008), Black & White Gallery, NY (2006), Galerie Michael Neff, Frankfurt, Germany (2003) and White Columns (2001). Group exhibitions include Greene Naftali, NY, Barbara Gladstone Gallery, NY, Hunter College Gallery, NY, and Oldenburger Kunstverein, Oldenburg, Germany.

Saccoccio was awarded the Rome Prize in Visual Arts from the American Academy in Rome in 2005. Other grants include a Guggenheim Foundation Grant (2000), a Fulbright grant to Italy (1990) and a residency at the Monet Foundation in Giverny, France (2004) selected by Art Production Fund. She received an M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design.
